What is the 49FIFTY Bag?

The 49FIFTY Bag was made for 1950 Originals exclusively by Thumann’s. We offer two varieties: Original (pork & beef) and Signature (100% beef). 

The name “49FIFTY” combines two important years: 1949 and 1950. In 1949, Thumann’s was
founded by Henry Thumann and his American dream was born. Henry had recipes that he created from scratch! Our proprietary Original & Signature hotdogs are true reflections of the first treasured recipes created by Henry Thumann and the standards of excellence he demanded, that are still followed today at their facility in Carlstadt, NJ.

As for 1950, this was the year CEO Daniel DeMiglio’s grandfather, Leonard "Artie" Castranni, started his own American dream and family business called Callahan’s. Leonards work ethic was simply unmatched! He worked 16 to 20 hours a day, 7 days a week and eventually turned the place into the area’s most popular hotdog stand. He too also made his items from scratch and took immense pride in his “baby” as he called it. Leonard always believed “if you sell the best, the customers would come and smile while they ate”. Never sacrificing quality was essential to his families successes throughout the years.

Our 49FIFTY bag pays homage to both Thumann’s and our CEO’s grandfather, respectively. Daniel DeMiglio aims to carry on the legacy of both of these legendary individuals through 1950 Originals!
What makes our hot dogs so special?

The 49FIFTY Bag is truly one of one. You cannot get these hot dogs anywhere in the world but from us! You can cook these hot dogs in multiple ways, resulting in different flavor profiles and textures. At home we recommend boiling & air frying. At our store, we fry them in beef tallow for not only an extraordinary taste, but also incredible texture!

These frankfurters were made for a consumer who cares about quality, taste, ingredients, consistency and most of all exclusivity.

Henry Thumann realized early on as a master butcher that MSG, gluten & large amounts of salt were not at all necessary when using superior quality meats and just the right combination of spices.
